Five years after 300D, the first affordable DSLR camera on the market, Canon launched 1000D / Rebel XS, a model situated one tier below of the class inaugurated by 300D. This camera is a clear response to competition's under-spec'ed cameras hurting 450D's market share. Although it's a lower positioned camera than 450D the step back is no that big as other manufacturers did and in most situations is an improvement when compared to 400D.
